chemical peels
Are Chemical Peels for Me?

The short answer is YES. Chemical peels are for anyone and everyone of any skin type.

Whether you have dry/combination/oily skin, light or dark skin, or even sensitive skin, there is a chemical peel for everyone at Jae Kim, MD Facial Plastic Surgery. Here we customize the peel to your specific skin concern and type. Chemical peels help improve many different skin conditions including aging, dark spots, wrinkles, acne, and sensitive skin/rosacea.

Unfortunately, as we age, our skin starts to sag creating wrinkles. Though we can’t stop time to permanently stop the aging process of our skin, we can help our skin with chemical peels. With peels, we can remove the damaged top layers of skin in a controlled manner, revealing the healthier skin underneath. This helps soften the appearance of wrinkles and improves the elasticity of our skin.

For acne-prone skin, a chemical peel is an alternative way to treat your skin. By controlling the oil production and improving skin texture, a series of chemical peels can help reduce breakouts. Additionally, chemical peels allow the skin to shed dead cells bringing fresh, new skin to the surface and allowing acne scars to slowly fade over time.

Experiencing a little discoloration or redness? With chemical peels, you can improve the overall skin tone of your skin while targeting dark spots caused by sun damage. Chemical peels are also a great way to reduce rosacea (redness), leaving a nice, bright skin tone and softer, smoother skin.

Have sensitive skin? Afraid of a skin reaction? There are varying degrees of chemical peels at Jae Kim, MD Facial Plastic Surgery. You may experience mild burning or stinging throughout the treatment; however, this will pass very quickly. The type of peel and the number of layers applied will vary from person to person. However, chemical peels do improve the sensitivity of your skin by reducing the inflammatory response and increasing cell turnover rate.

Post-peel expectations:

Everyone peels differently and it depends on skin type, type of peel, and the number of layers applied. Some people experience “sheeting” where larger portions of the skin peel off, and this is usually for those who are treated with stronger peels. Other sometimes “flake” or do not experience “peeling” at all, but it does not mean the peel did not work. Your skin might feel dry or tight; however, after about a week this dryness/tightness should go away. Patients usually leave with a healthy glow with little to no downtime.

Post-peel care:

After a chemical peel, your skin can be sensitive, thus it is essential to avoid direct sunlight and apply sunscreen (you should be applying sunscreen every day anyway). Additionally, avoid working out, sweating, or swimming for up to 48 hours after a peel, as these activities can increase redness and cause hypersensitivity. Following the post-procedure regimen will enhance your desired results and keep peeling and redness to a minimum.
